Voices For Freedom, 2022

When language becomes weaponised, terms like “Freedom” claimed for specific political agendas, like the anti-vax lobby in 2022, it rattles me to the bone. Propaganda.

With the prolific protest and occupation of parliament grounds from February 2022 till March feeding into the atmosphere of inconsolable division, fear and anger, a specific vastly growing group caught my attention: Voices For Freedom.

Running and established by financially privileged, white women, this group was recruiting new members fast by using tropes of motherhood, idealising the portrait of the caring, nurturing Feminine. The slogans are simple, catchy and heavily ‘inspired’ by familiar self-help literature phrases.

And yet, at their core is just hot air.
